Whitebells…

Our wild flower meadow and orchard is a riot of colour and activity from the turn of the year. Snowdrops, crocus, daffodils followed by narcissi are then overwhelmed by bluebells.

Wandering in there this morning, admiring the change of colours and the growth spurt that the rain has wrought, I spotted whitebells. First year of these. Ninety-nine percent of the meadow are proper old-English versions (or Welsh if you prefer). So, why white?

Google informs me that they are genetic throwbacks and about one in ten thousand are so.
