Black Strawberry or Evil Olive?

Not your every day question about your life choices, but intriguing names of heritage tomatoes.

Around the end of May we noticed some Social activity about “She Grows Veg” which were in great demand at the Chelsea flower show. Google provided the whatabout and the whereabout of this young company (https://shegrowsveg.com) and in the post arrived these beauties.

I was sceptical that I could get a crop from the seeds as it was late to sow them in Wales, but Penny and pound prevailed and I sowed three seeds of each rather than waste a whole packet.

No doubt being heritage and not refined in a high intensive breeding programme they were slow to germinate, but two Olive and three Strawberry grew into lovely strong plants. Incidentally the foliage is “tomatoey” but of a distinct nature.

Sow (I know) here we are in October and my scepticism about maturity has prevailed…

Olive
Strawberry

… so I have taken them off the vine and am maturing them separately, mainly because I need the greenhouse and I’m impatient to taste them.

Update to follow.
