A Twmffat …

A twmffat is Welsh for funnel, an affectionate name for a complete eejit! Said entity decided to camp on the bank of the Wye, hence deserving the entirely Welsh description.

Not much affection around here for the person who also built a hearth for an open fire. Remind me… a heatwave, 3% of a normal July let alone June’s non- rainfall, and this anonymous person who lacks any common sense lights a match. Sensible?

As I understand it, spontaneous combustion is not a UK phenomenon, despite the heatwave the temperatures just do not get to the requisite heat, so any/every fire has a (sub in this case) human cause.

On the upside the only known casualty is a field mouse who couldn’t escape the flames, if the hedge had been breached, the field surrounding our cottage would have consumed it.

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service were exceptional.
