Eventually he came off air altogether as it clearly got a bit too much for him. The forecast was at 5:20am, just hours after the BBC South East Christmas party had ended. It’s thought to be the first time the Radio 4’s Shipping Forecast has been interrupted in its 91 year history”.
In the end he was disrespectful to a 91 year old institution, to the BBC, and to the sailing fraternity. Mostly, he was disrespectful to his employer – the Me Toffice.
