Weather man

The BBC produces a lexicon for the celebrity presenters to use.  They are all instructed to use various words or phrases so they can pad out the forecast to last the required scheduled time.  In our language, everyday English usage, we used to have “Sunny periods and showers” which says it all.  Now we have for example, “useful weather”.  What’s that?
