The end of an era,…
… the start of another. The final resting place of the elders of Sandie’s family and their scattering of ashes marks such an era.
Twins Dorothy (Dotty) and Joan were born almost at the same minute in 1926 (“the same year as the (late) queen” – that became a catch phrase of Joan). Evacuated to Horninghold in Leicestershire they ended the war as did many (including HM) promenading around the London parks chatting to the armed forces camped there. Post war, Dotty and Jack begat Carol and John, Joan and Alex bequeathed to the Nation David and Sandra.
And so, dear reader that’s why we are gathered here today concluding the lives of Dotty (1999), Alex (2003), and Joan (2023) with an ashes scattering in our orchard. We are the aforementioned children augmented by the attachments- Nick, Liz and me.
