The day that the rain came down…

Substitute drizzle for rain. Insert “days” for day. Call it floated rather than came with its biblical sound, and you have a fifteen millimetre or so 24 hours gently inserting itself into the rock hard ground. Lovely.

Away on the top of Pumlumon Fawr it must have had a similar effect, or perhaps the biblical version occurred, and here, maybe twenty miles downstream the effect is remarkable. The first surge or spate of the winter is speeding past the cottage, clearing out the old, re-energising the oxygen, taking away the fry that haven’t found a bottom hidey-hole to find safety.
