Just when we thought…

that Spring was with us, Winter returns with an unexpected minus five this morning.

My pocket sized thermometer on the fence post

At seven o’clock this morning, with the sun about to launch itself on the day, the temperature was -5.3 and falling! The first spring we were here we had a surprising -8 – from nowhere, no forecast warning us, and no Post Office tip to the wise (Dan is very good at snow warnings). That day we visited a plant nursery and they were very anxious about ruined stock.

Potato planting later today but first last night’s casualties need to recover.

Daffs set back by the sudden temperature drop

And they will recover once the sun is properly up and about.
