Three Cocks again, and their Christmas display gets better and better!
🏴
Tuesday 23rd. October, and it’s gardening day, so off to Merryhall to take over the greenhouse.

(Note to self, really must clean the windows). Planning ahead, and it’s spring bulb planting, Miraclegrow compost bought (“grows plants double the size ” – how? Double the size of what? Can you say that? If they don’t, can we sue? If they do will visiting Penrhyn be surrounded by Triffids? Anyway……)

“Go away we’re busy.”

🏴
Monday, Monday… you know how the song goes? Dark skies, drizzly day ahead, let’s do something, so we phoned Joan and said she was going to Aberystwyth.

“Well, I’ve got to change my trousers ” was the reply, and half an hour later we’re off!
Marks and Spencer’s have a new store there, we parked underneath and by 09.30 we’re breakfasting on cheese scones and coffee. Then of course, it’s shopping time!

My role was to fill the boot…

Sandie’s role was to adopt a lonely Robin muffler at Charlie’s country store.

In t’car, out t’car, repeat, repeat, we got a pooped Joan back to home by two o’ clock, then we had to catch up on the animal jobs we put off!
🏴
Joan has had a frustrating time trying to get the management committee to replace the kitchen window which had been “misted”.

Now a beautifully clear window to complement the new kitchen. The window was fitted by Ian, who fitted the new units to Merryhall, for the previous owner, and who is the brother-in-law of Jan who lives across the A490 from us. It’s a VERY small world round here!
🏴
We wandered into Butterfills, the local “must go-to” home and furniture showroom and this was staring at us!

A poufe, coffee table, storage box, moveable, un-intrusive, blend-in-able thingy. “Take it and see if she likes it”, says Matthew; she did!!!
🏴
Another twelve month celebration as the previous one wasn’t quite right. This time to The Bell Inn at Llanyre
And a jolly nice lunch too. This is Joan after tucking into a steak and ale pie (and chips, natch)!
🏴
As a small celebration of a year in the province, we’re off to Coed y Dinas near Welshpool which is a

farm supplies, department store, garden centre and cafe all rolled into one. After brekkie a spot of serious browsing is required.

🏴
Happy first birthday! Believe it or not, it is twelve months today that Joan’s furniture arrived and she saw the apartment for the first time. It had just been decorated and carpeted and was good to go!
🏴
Brother David drove down to see his Mother, and take her to the Bell At Llanyre and then dropping in for tea at Merryhall.

Cousin Carol had sent a Betty’s of Harrogate gift box through for Joan’s birthday, with some scones, jam and a lovely light fruit cake. Add some Welsh cakes and we had a cream tea! Excellent thanks Carol!
🏴
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Joan! 1st of August, my how time flies!

Picked her up at 09.03 (3 minutes late, points failure Clapham Junction (vision of runaway rhino flashes into mind). Off for the first treat of the day – Hay and Brecon (farm supplies) car park for some early morning train spotting. She does enjoy it, bless her, particularly when the driver waves.
To Merryhall and a chorus of Happy Birthday from the Donks

present time!

Then off to the Triangle inn at Cymdaudda for Scampi and chips (what else?). Excellent place and giggles all round.

All replete, and a visit to the Elan Valley visitor centre and a tour round the reservoirs. Brother David is really using too much water!

And so to bed – an excellent day! Part two on Saturday when Brother David visits to take her out for lunch.

Day four or so of the heatwave and the sheep are keeping the lounge cool!

Friday 23rd and round to Joans’s to go to Mr. T’s. Certainly makes a difference!

Bit of a sheep thing!

Certainly makes a difference!
🏴
As lovely as the flat is, Joan says it lacks something, and TV watching is less enjoyable when the sun shines brightly.

So new curtains were ordered, and fitted today (20th June). Can’t wait to pop round to see!
🏴
Bank holiday over with and a trip to Three Cocks for coffee a browse, and three pre-planted pots of annuals for a blowsy display.

🏴
Spring is here, and the flower beds are blooming. Gwethlyn and fellow neighbours tend them, and pretty they are.

The view from the kitchen window.
🏴
Son David has booked a visit on Saturday next, 2nd June, and the preparations crank into action. Food to be cooked, fatted calves to be selected, new curtains to be fitted , ceremonial cutlery and crockery to be dusted and washed, waiting staff to be briefed and Welsh tea to be brewed. A rehearsal has been booked after the trip to Mr. T’s.

🏴
and we had a lovely day,
