… by The Sandpipers. They call it the sand piper, because it does what it says in the book.

There is a pair by the river gate with a newly hatched chick. One stands off, usually on a rock in the river, constantly calling and updating, whilst the other plays with and feeds the chick. Then there are at least two other pairs doing the same. The river echoes with their piping, wonderful.
