The last surge after heavy rain, about a month ago, left a tree in the middle of the river, a sizeable chap that had come from who knows where and was going on a jaunt downstream.

Untidy or what? So we took advantage of a winner windfall, and trimmed it a little, and then Storm Brian arrived and lo! it was gone.  The power of the river is awesome.
