Hitchcockian

One remarkable difference this Autumn, is the number, frequency, composition and

size of flocks of birds. Taking photos of them is pointless as they are relatively far away and they are relatively small. These photos are on the morning walk beside the Wye, and shows the hill and woods opposite the cottage. The constituency of this one is “pigeons ” mostly wood pigeons. And look at the sky by the way, we’re getting some very Turneresque, turbulent cloud arrangements.

They are waking up here and wishing every other one a good morning and setting out plans for the day. It continues through the day, with groups large and small continually on the move. I started counting and got to 12 …. started the group approach – if that’s 10, there’s another ten, etc. and got to well over 500, possibly a thousand. Radnorshire bird blog tweeted that a flock of three thousand passed over Crossgates which is quite close. Intermingling with this flock are then feeding groups of Starlings, Fieldfares and Redwings, separately and together. It’s a wonder we ever get any jobs done.
