Storm Callum, that is. We have had more than 48 hours of rain, and the river is three feet over normal and we’ve not had that since the last time.

We now have a measuring stick that we’ve calibrated from a notional “normal” level. This is useful so that between us we have a shorthand for river conditions.

At this level of surge things “move”. Rocks alter the riverine landscape, and gravel journeys en masse. The trees on our own gravel bank island were uprooted during the March surge and some new tree debris has built up against it. We’ll report back when the surge subsides.
