Busy day…

Didn’t realise just how busy though. Weeded the nettle patch, now it looks like garden. Put together the garden furniture – seems like yesterday we stored it for Winter – (“must use it more this year” – ritual saying). Painted the underneath of said furniture with Danish oil. Sowed parsnips (seeds) – trying a different method this year because of split stems and canker. Sorted out dead overwintered pots, and reprieved some which might just spring into life (pun). Mowed the lawns. Ran the dogs in the pond meadow – which was where the trouble started.

Sat by the pond watching the dogs enjoy the sun and shade, musing on Eurovision and the curry which Sammie was preparing and cooking. Rosie (11 and diagnosed with some arthritis issues, half-blind or not) started having a mad moment – more fluid movement as we put her on Loxicom the day before – she was having a mad moment on the Donkey spoil heap (jumping in the air, going round in circles and barking) when the arthritic leg gave way and she fell off the heap and crashed to the ground. Shocked and dazed she three-legged it over to me. Looked OK and then I noticed the fur had been ruffled – and she had torn away the flesh on her side!

There are three Vets in Llandod and phoned the one we use for the dogs and donkeys which is a satellite branch of four. The Knighton branch (30 miles or so) had an emergency stitch up and one waiting, and the Llanidloes branch (same distance) had similar so we waited for further instructions – which told us to get to Llani as soon as possible – which we did.

Plenty of tripper and tourist traffic including a Lotus 7 day out, a Porsche rally, and Land Rover Liaison but we got there and parked but couldn’t find the vet who was obviously operating. Eventually my phone rang to ask where I was as the vet had found the Jeep with a dog inside it! Sedation, local anaesthetic, and stitching.

the sedation is taking effect

The vet was on his own, so I had to assist with the pre-op procedures!

ever so slightly out of it!

The vet advised us to wait an hour and then she emerged pretty woozy!

She’s in there somewhere
coming round
this morning! The painkillers have kicked in and she is relaxed.

Back home! Keep George away from her so they had a night apart but next door to each other. Checked on her a couple of times, had a few wines and slumped in from of Eurovision. Oh yes! Who won (or shouldn’t I ask?
