Well, nearly! Came back from Hereford via whole valleys flooded with water. Recognised some of the water which passed our cottage. Drove on to Oakchurch farm shop, circumventing road closure signs, and an abandoned car, to realise that we were low on fuel. I intended to fill up in Hereford, but a small change of plan put this out of mind.
Checked the trip computer and discovered that Llandod was 12 miles away, but that we only had 8 miles of fuel left. At Penybont (no fuel left) there is a repair garage with unused (for customers) fuel pumps; Nice lad, “Can you let me have a gallon of fuel please?” Of course they are not licenced, and he didn’t know me or my third cousin twice removed, so the answer was no. Started off a little tremulously, finger on the hazard button, when an irregular beat from the engine was detected, so pull into a bus stop. Mmmm – seems to be running sweetly, so off again for the two miles to Crossgates garage and the computer said 9 miles to empty!
We made it! Just a little relieved! First time I’ve been this low!
