Spotted these growths along grass stems in the wild flower meadow. Looks like an animal such as a dog or a fox has eaten grass and been sick. Quite messy and not a pretty sight.

Turns out to be a fungus – Fusarium Patch Disease, thanks to Google.

Part of a damp and dull October or Autumn. Turfonline, says “First, Fusarium spores are all around. They’re in the soil beneath your lawn and they’re being carried by the wind. Second, you cannot escape them and most of the time they do no harm. Third, they feed on dead plant material, helping to decompose it.”
It’s not fatal, but on lawns it can lead to bare patches, but I don’t think we’ll worry too much in the meadow (famous last words –
Ed.).
