and Taylor is settling in well. Well, not so well maybe. Following the sad and quick demise of George (his separation angst and/or grieving for Rosie as we diagnosed was more likely early pain from his resultant nemesis of bone cancer) we had decided that the easiest way to ease his angst was to partner him with another greyhound. Enter stage right – Taylor, yes we went ahead with adoption.

She is four and a half years of age and raced until Autumn 2024 winning several firsts before retiring. Not that she had much choice in the matter, so we found her courtesy of the Welsh Greyhound Trust. She comes with BTS (Bald Thigh Syndrome) which is a side effect of the racing diet she was on. The diet makes them lose hair or fur and discolours the underlying skin. It is non-life threatening nor infectious nor mange it just looks ‘orrible. The good news is that her fur is growing back already and hopefully all of it will return – she has about 40% loss and it isn’t a given that it will return.

We have had persistent barking most of the day, and throughout the night, the easiest remedy for which is to accompany her in the kennel. Although this gives us the equivalent of her disease which humans get through persistent hair removal in frustration.
